Mickey Jean Landers, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, at the age of 74. Born on October 14, 1949, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Frank and Jessie (Freeze) Kennedy Cochran. She was a vibrant spirit known for her warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family.
With a dedicated work ethic, Mickey spent many years serving the community in various cafés throughout the Newkirk and Ponca areas, before concluding her professional journey at Air Systems Components, from which she retired in 2005.
Outside of work, Mickey enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected her creativity and dedication to family. She was a talented quilter, often making beautiful baby blankets that represented her love for the little ones in her family. Mickey also took pleasure in fabric painting, creating unique pieces of art that showcased her imaginative spirit. Her knack for making jewelry added a special touch to the gifts she shared with friends and family. Cooking was another of her delights, especially when it came to her root beer and Sprite hams. She also enjoyed her computer games. However, perhaps her greatest passion was her love for goats. Mickey poured her heart into caring for these animals, often bottle-feeding them as babies and watching with delight as they frolicked across the land. She had a particular affection for a three-legged goat, named Billy.
Mickey's proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren, who remained her greatest joy. She relished every moment spent with them, always finding ways to create lasting memories. Her legacy lives on through the love she shared and the life lessons she imparted.
Mickey is survived by her beloved husband, Ralph Landers Jr.; her sons, Larry Joe and wife Angela Freek, Jerry and wife Sandy Freek, and Terry Jean and wife Christie Freek; her daughter, Christina and husband Jim Pevy; her sisters, Debbie Kent, Francis Kennedy, and Cheryl Ely; as well as eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Mickey also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
