Katherine May Backhaus left this earth on August 10, 2022 to be with her Savior.
Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday, August 18, 2022 in the First Baptist Church of Newkirk with Pastor Jason Ravan officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk City Cemetery under the care of Miller Stahl Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2022
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorial contributions be made to St Jude Children’s hospital at stjude.org/donate
Katherine was born January 31, 1936, to Harvey and Francis Belair of Kildare, Ok. During her childhood she lived in the country around Newkirk, the daughter of a farmer, and attended Newkirk High School. In 1954 she married Floyd V. Backhaus of Newkirk. Together they started their family with the birth of Steven Eugene. In 1955 they family moved to California where Ronald Wayne, Curtis Gene and Rhonda Kay were born and raised. She was a woman of many talents including china painting, cake decorating, and quilting. She also served as the Newkirk VFW Auxiliary President for 15 years. In 1988 they moved back to Colcord, OK then back home to Newkirk.
Katherine was preceded in death by her father Harvey Belair, mother Francis Belair, Her husband Floyd Vern Backhaus, and son Steven Eugene Backhaus. Brothers Clifford Belair, Leo (Buck)Belair, Milford (Reaf) Belair, Cecil (Jack) Belair, Raymond Belair, and Lester Belair. Sisters Ida Belair, Ethel May Belair and Deloris Harviston.
She is survived by her sister Ruby Marie Huxley, sister-in-law Charlene Belair, her sons Ronald Wayne and wife Brenda Backhaus, Curtis Gene and wife Patti Backhaus, daughter Rhonda Kay and husband Brian Fortier, also surviving are grandchildren Bonell Lynn and husband David Dominguez, Travis Wayne Backhaus and wife Shelly, Bria Marie and husband Justin Schlottman, Rana Blair Backhaus, Crystal May and husband Nathan Repose, Noel Sheree and husband Jason Day, Amanda Marie and husband Adam Stanchos, Jason William and wife Erin Henderson and Kalyn Danae and husband Alvin Moody. 21 Great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
