Karol Kekahbah

Karol Lee Kehahbah, “Little Pants”, Kaw Tribal member and longtime Newkirk resident, passed away Monday February 21, 2022. He was 60 years old.

Karol was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Carolyn Sue (Goddard) and Robert Kekahbah on December 14, 1961. He grew up and attended school in Shidler, Oklahoma, graduating in 1980. Karol then attended nursing school in Wichita, Kansas and worked in the medical field in Winfield, Kansas among other places for several years.

He was very proud of his Native heritage and loved dancing in powwows and making meat pies and fry bread to sell there. Beadwork was also a favorite hobby of his. His most treasured past time though was spending time with his family, especially his son, Micah Zane, who was his most treasured one to spend his time with.

He is survived by his son, Micah Zane Kekahbah, his mother Carolyn Sue Ewing, brothers Joe Goddard, Pete Ewing, Micheal Ewing, Bobby Kekahbah, Warren Kekahbah. His sisters Michelle Brandt, Jennifer Willard, Erin Kekahbah, Mary Kekahbah. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews.

Karol was preceded in death by his father Bob Kekahbah, brothers Owen Ewing, Tony (Kekahbah) Tabor, Joe Don Kekahbah, stepfather Leonard Ewing; his maternal grandparents C.L. and Stella Goddard and paternal grandparents Bill and Vera Kekahbah.

Karol will be truly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. God rest his soul.

Viewing will be held at the J.R. McCauley Gymnasium in Newkirk, Oklahoma on Friday, February 25, starting at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 26th, at 2 p.m., at the JR McCauley Gymnasium with Pastor Mark Southard officiating. Burial will follow immediately after at the Washunga Cemetery in Newkirk. Casket bearers will be Glenn Goddard, Justin Weunt, Chandler Stewart, Liam Goddard, Derrick Fagg, Russell Sepeda, Preston Backus, and Easton Wright. Honorary bearers are Chris Jones, Chris Goddard, and Curt Scott.
