Visitation for the public will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Miller Stahl Funeral Service in Newkirk, Oklahoma at 128 S. Main St. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Mike grew up in Winfield, Kansas graduating from Winfield High School and attending college at Pitts State in Pittsburg, Kansas. He met the love of his life Pamela K. Ketterman and they were married on July 6, 1968. She preceded him in death in 2010. Mike was blessed to find love again with Catherine Riggins-Valencia and they were married October 5th, 2013. Mike had a 46 year career in the railroad industry with Frisco, Burlington Northern, and BNSF. Working as a Trackman, Foreman, and Roadmaster until he retired. Mike enjoyed his grandkids, hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, noodling, spicy foods and old cars. He was a member of the Ark City First Assembly of God Church and was actively involved in mission trips to Mexico, Africa and Nicaragua where he built numerous churches. Mike was very proud of the Prison Ministry he was involved with also. He would say, "there's a difference between going to the prison to minister and reaching the prisoners. They were already there, they had made a mistake and put their life in a jeopardizing position." He wanted to help them get their feet back on the ground and hoped to give them a new start with sharing the word.
Family he leaves behind are his wife Catherine Newman of the home, sons, James Newman and wife Shonda, Jake Newman and wife Lea, Jeremy (Bear) Newman and wife Heather, Stepdaughter Crystal Morton and husband Josh, Stepdaughter, Sarah Treschuk and husband Tanner, grandkids Dylan, Ethan, Evan, Gavin, Ellie, Jeryn, Easton, Carter, Esmei, Hannah and Emmitt and brother Jerry Newman and wife Diane.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen, grandmother, Martha, first wife Pam, grandson Bayne Newman, brother Pat Newman, and sister, Jo Anne Heiserman.
In Lieu of flowers the family has set up two funds, one is for Missions Funds. Checks can be made to Ark City First Assembly of God and left at the funeral home or given directly to the church staff at the service. The other fund is under the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Online donations can be made at https://supporting.afsp.org/campaign/Newman
