Helen Frances (Hasselbring) Meloy, 81 years of age, of Newkirk, OK, went to be with the Lord on June 22, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones.
Helen was the youngest daughter of John & Ethel (Little) Hasselbring of Newkirk, OK. Born November 17th, 1941 in Estancia, New Mexico after “Womb Mate”, her twin brother Danny and 8 siblings. After living a short time in Estancia, the family moved back to Newkirk where Helen attended school from kindergarten to 12th grade. She went on to attend one year of college at Oklahoma State University. After which, she married her first husband and gave birth to her oldest daughter. She then divorced and moved back to Newkirk and worked at Glenn Paris Furniture and the US Post Office, where she met and married the love of her life, Dennis L. Meloy on June 23, 1968. They made their home in Newkirk where they raised four children. They then moved to Emporia, Kansas until 1979 then back to Newkirk to their current residence.
Helen began working at the Kay County Assessors Office in 1979 and retired after 27 years. In her spare time she loved to sing for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She sang in the Blue Grass Gospel group ‘New Song’ for many years and also loved to sing specials at church and other various occasions. She loved her family and enjoyed attending all the sports games, music concerts, plays, and family reunions she could. Attending church at Ranch Drive Baptist Church in Ponca City and keeping up with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy in her retirement years.
Helen is survived by her husband, Dennis Meloy; 4 children: Terri Jamison, Joe and wife Kim Meloy, Amy and husband Mike Smith, and Dennis and wife Susan Meloy. Seven grandchildren: Stephen and wife Jessica, Randi and husband Mark, Jessica, Laina, Logan, Pam, and Mike and wife Jamie. As well as 4 great-grandchildren. Brother Elmer (Sonny) and wife Martha Hasselbring and sister Patsy (Hasselbring) and husband Vernon Rowe. Sisters-in-law Betty Hasselbring, Maxine Hasselbring, and Sharon Hasselbring.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Carlin Lee and wife Marie Hasselbring, Jon Hasselbring, Merlin Hasselbring, Danny and wife Bonnie Hasselbring. Her sisters: Colleen and husband Roy Pappan, Emogene Lucille and husbands Ray Perkins and Billy Kay, and Betty and husband Jack Turner. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel on July 7th, 2023, 2 p.m., at Ranch Drive Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Newkirk City Cemetery. There will be a family dinner before the service at noon at the Ranch Drive Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
