Fern Leyva, 91, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, was called to her eternal resting place on September 26, 2022. She entered this world on June 11, 1931, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, born to Fines Thompson and Lucille Webb Thompson.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, in the Newkirk Church of Christ with Scott Dutton officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk City Cemetery under the care of Miller Stahl Funeral Service. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at Miller Stahl from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Fern grew up in Newkirk and she met the love of her life Placido Leyva, and they were married July 3, 1947 in Newkirk and they made their home in Newkirk. Fern was a charter member of the Newkirk Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spoiling her grandkids and great grandkids.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters Gloria Horinek of Newkirk, OK and Virginia Copple and husband Bill of Skiatook, OK. Two Sons; Placido Lee Leyva and wife Patsy of Newkirk, OK and Danny Leyva and wife Kari of Chatham, ILL. She is also survived by Fourteen grandchildren: Regina Stoddard and husband Joe of KS, Diane Sciple and husband Wade of TX, Crystal Price and husband Ben of KS Placido Leyva of Ok, Margo Leyva of CO, Stephanie Long and husband Danny of TX, Cecelia Leyva, Easton Martin, Luke Martin, Maclaine Martin all of IL. Fern was also survived by numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and one brother, Dale Thompson of MS.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Two brothers: Wayne Thompson and Don Thompson, One sister in law, Ann Thompson and One grandson, Steven Copple.
