Billie Jean (Avent) Thompson longtime Newkirk resident passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 in Ponca City. She was 81 years of age. She was the daughter of Edward Theo and Opal Lick Avent, born on September 10, 1939 in Sumner, MS.
A private graveside service was held, and the family has asked memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Northern Oklahoma. Those who would like to sign the guest registry may do so at www.millerstahl.com
Billie grew up in Tutwiler, MS and attended school there. She met the love of her life James Matthew Thompson and they were married on January 27, 1955 in Sumner, MS and they moved to Newkirk, OK in 1969.
Billie and James raised seven children while owning many different businesses with the Hut was a popular hamburger joint in Newkirk where Billie met and made many lifelong friends. Her health forced her to sell the Hut in the late 1990’s. Billie enjoyed spending time with her family and her cats. Billie also enjoyed going to the Casino’s.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter; Karen Thompson White of Newkirk, OK sons; Mark Thompson, Jimmie and Audra Thompson, Jason, and Lisa Thompson all of Ponca City, OK and Josh and Hayley Thompson of Newkirk, OK. also surviving are twenty grandchildren, Thirty great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and 1 sister: Wanda Celaya of Punta Gorda, FL and several Nieces and nephews.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James of 62 years, 1 daughter; Pamela Thompson, Son, Michael Thompson, 3 sisters; Joyce Smith, Dorinda Ellett and Kathy Hudgins, 1 brother, Pete Avent.
